We Moved!

I think I shared that we were looking for houses a couple months back.  Well, we found one!  And we bought it.  We had small issues selling our home [we had some very obstinate buyers] and an almost deal-breaker issue come up with our new home at inspection.  But, all's well that ends well and here we are.  Finally.  After a month of living at my in-laws and traveling back and forth to tear down walls, paint, lay new floors, update, etc. etc. etc. we are in! It looks crazy different from what it used to and I can't wait to share the updated pictures.

But, first.

First, I need to share the tour of how it looked when we bought it.

I know some of you guys have already seen the house on Instagram [call me obsessed--hence my lack of blogging].  But no one besides family has seen the entire home.  I snapped some pictures before we moved in so you can see what we're working with.

Our home is 10 years old and it has all of the major points I wanted: first floor laundry, fireplace, master bathroom, and a two car garage.  These are pretty simple wishes but they were actually hard to find in our town within our price-range and in a home that I wanted to live in.

The exterior:

The exterior needs a little updating but otherwise is in great condition! I've already painted the shutters and front door black.  I have plans to replace and/or paint the light fixtures.

View from the Entryway:

We've already painted every single wall + ceiling in the entire home because the yellow had to go.  The floors have also been replaced with dark hand scraped wood.  The railing in the bottom right is part of the staircase that leads to the basement. Dave also replaced the ceiling fan with another more modern one.

Great Room:

The Dining Room & Eat-In Kitchen:

The first thing we did was tear down this non-bearing wall. My super handy and helpful father-in-law helped us and moved the wiring to the adjoining walls.

The Kitchen:

We had this room painted and had the tile replaced with the same hardwoods that are in the great room.  We removed the track lighting and I painted the upper cabinets a creamy white and the bottom cabinets and greenish-gray.

My father-in-law suggested taking out the peninsula and while I objected at first, when he showed me how it would look I loved it! So now we had to order new countertops to accommodate the new shape of the layout.

The Laundry Room and Pantry Door:

David measured and taped the walls and I painted some floor to ceiling stripes in here.  They are very similar in height & color as the ones in our last home's kitchen.

The Hallway [Standing in Great Room]:

The Hallway [Standing in Master Bedroom}:

The Hallway [Looking into Great Room]:

The Hall Bathroom:

So far we've replaced the light, shower curtain, and faucet.  We painted this room Newburg Green by Benjamin Moore and the vanity a glossy black from Lowe's.  We also removed the behind-the-toilet storage and added new hardware to the vanity.

Theron's Room:

We've removed the hula skirt valance and painted the room Incredible White by Sherwin Williams.

Guest Bedroom:

It just got a fresh coat of Native White paint by Sherwin Williams.

Master Bedroom:

We painted the room Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore and had the carpet replaced.  David replaced the fan with the same type that we used in the great room.

Small Walk-In Closet:

Master Bathroom:

We painted the room Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore and removed the vanity, bulb lighting, small divider wall, mirror, and carpet PLUS my father-in-law wired a space for a small tv above the TV-- heaven!  We had only planned on removing the vanity and replacing it and doing complete floor update later.  But once the vanity was removed we found water damage on the drywall which my step-dad fixed and then we also spotted water damage under the toilet which David, my father-in-law, and I worked to remedy.  We decided that since the vanity & carpet were already out, we might as well fix the floors, too.

As I type this we are having the floor replaced with 12x24 marble tiles.  They are gorgeous!

The Deck + Backyard:

We were pumped to have a deck AND swingset! You can bet Therbear has already taken his fair share of swings on that bad boy!  We've had some issues with digging out the buried water downspouts [Ugh! Why they are buried so water can't escape is beyond me!]  But we've successfully found the majority of them and now just have to add dirt to the sides of the home so that water doesn't seep in the foundation.   I hate water.  More importantly, I hate water that comes in a home when it's not supposed to.  Boo.

The Front Door:

I painted it black and am currently looking for a new entryway table to add here.  Our buyers of our first home negotiated a lot of our furniture to stay with them.  Sore subject.

And that about concludes the home tour.  I never thought to take basement pics but there is a finished bathroom and room down there that I'm turning into a craft room.  Sweet.  A place to sew and create for me.  I can dig.

We've done SO much to this house in the month that it's been ours and I can't wait to share the updates. And get to blogging about it more.  I am bursting with ideas for this house.  I can't wait to continue to make it feel like a home.

Love you guys!

xoxo

We are almost exactly in the same position! We sold our house and have been leaving with my mom while we work on the new house. Except the new house is our first house that we had rented for the last 8 years. So....definitely not an upgrade exactly :) And I'm 36 weeks pregnant. So not exactly the same but close! ha!

I cannot wait to see the after pictures of everything! I love what I see on instagram already! Great house, and I love your vision!

EEEEEEK, I'm so excited to see it all - what a great home with so much space. And I'm totally jealous of that open floorplan

Holy yellow. Someone liked that color! I can't wait to see it today with all that work you've done. You guys don't mess around - I'm sure it looks like a brand new house.

Woohooooo! How fun to get to do a new design plan! The house looks so spacious! I am certainly jealous of that awesome master and bath. I seriously need a soaker bath in our bathroom.

It's also a little weird to see a backyard without a fence. In California almost everyone has a tall fence separating their space. I would love to have that beautiful green field out my back door. Also, what an awesome swing set for T. Lucky little dude!

Boo on the buyers.

Can't wait to see more! I'm positive your house is looking fab!
