A Little Babbling + Antique Store Fun

First, I just want to say that I had a blast at the Phillips Furniture Design Event last night! A big thanks goes out to my friend, Dana, who included me! Everyone from the employees to the guests were so pleasant, I got to talk design and decorating with tons of fabulous people, I passed out calling cards {for reals!}, and I met the editor of the St. Louis At Home magazine. She was the epitome of high fashion and class and we gossiped about her time spent with Jonathan Adler while he was in St. Louis recently. OMG. Do you all understand how much I am loving this?

It was all so much fun and I am still pinching myself! Oh, and the best part?

Christy {we're buds now ; ) } wants to put our home in the At Home magazine soon.

Say whaaat?!?!

I just love how this story keeps getting better and better. And, I am so truly grateful. I hope that manages to comes through in my writing.

But, enough babbling, I must show you guys my favorite finds of the week! I didn't make it to the thrift store last week because of Thanksgiving, but I did make it to my favorite antique store on the weekend! I scored three lovely little purchases and they may be my favorites yet from this place.

First up I found this beyond amazing mid century gold magazine rack. And, it was 70% off! Wahoo for me!

Then I scooped up this little flower pail that I think I've spotted before and passed over, but not this time. She came home with me! : )

Finally, I scored a $10 white afghan that I'm planning on using in the guest room. I didn't snap a pic but I will soon!

Oh, and as a side-note, I went into a Stein Mart yesterday for the first time ever and they have some killer pillows. I picked up a couple and I am in LOVE. I have a feeling you guys are going to love them too. I'll try and remember to take a picture of them and blog about them soon. Mmkay?

Fun Find: Antique Store Lamp

When I saw my new lamp in my favorite Antique Mall, I immediately wanted it. I thought for sure that it was going to be out of my price range, however when I saw the price I was pleasantly surprised. It was only $12 and I swooped that baby up faster than you could imagine!

It's on the console table in the hallway and I like it here, but I think I'm going to silverleaf the table, change out the hardware, and then paint the mirror a different color.

Of course I'll keep ya'll updated. : )

Antique Mall Find

My sweet husband and I made a little stop off at my favorite Antique Mall this weekend and ventured out with this beauty for only $25!

She's going in the hallway soon, but I am still contemplating if I want to paint her or not. I really like the gold as-is, but spray paint is calling my name, too! : )

March Madness Makeover

My march madness isn't so much about basketball, but rather a bedroom makeover! I did not intend on this makeover at all, but when I walked into Target last weekend and saw these pillows, I was drawn like a magnet to them, seriously, I couldn't put them down, ask Dave!

Then I spotted the West Elm pin tuck bedding knock off {which I own, mind you-don't judge ;-) } in a pure crisp white and have to have that, too!

Then the wheels started turning! I couldn't possibly keep the old paint color, and well--the curtains weren't going to look good anymore, and what about those mirrors at that antique shop I had been dreaming about??? My train of thought was basically as ADD as you could get.

I was inspired by the drapes and paint color in Suzie's wonderful office {friend from Decor Pad-the best online site for decor chat and advice!} and immediately went on a mini-shopping excursion to pick these things up.

We, I mean I, settled on the perfect shade of blue gray {Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray} and went to town painting! David rolled and I cut in...it's a match made in paint heaven!

Then I purchased the aforementioned mirrors from my favorite local antique mall on sale for $40 total!!!! I was so afraid they would be gone since they've been hanging there for months! I wasted no time spray painting those babies a glossy white, in Dave's words, "If it ain't right, paint it white!" So true in this household! : )

I'm still searching for the perfect throw to put at the end of the bed and some other additions will be made later, and explained in future posts!

Chair Makeover-Round 2

I blogged about this cute little chair awhile back. I found it at an antique mall in our area and had to have it! It came home with a friend, too!

The first chair was a breeze to reupholster in comparison to this bad boy! I have to admit, I just kind of made up the rules as I went along. It took me a complete 2 days to get it finished, and it still needs trim to cover up the staples. Thank God for a power staple gun and a little bit of persistence and patience!

Here the chair is like I purchased it:

And here is the fabric I chose to give it new life, compliments of here. It's an Amy Butler fabric from her Midwest Modern collection.

I went to town on the chair ripping the old fabric out and getting rid of the very old foam for some new foam.

First we had to unscrew the bottom of the cushion which David had to do because those screws were in there very tight.

Then I continued tearing off the old fabric and set it aside to use as a cutting guide for the new fabric.

Finally all the fabric was off and I was left with just a frame ready to be spray painted a glossy white!

I managed to salvage the old button fasteners and bought a cover button kit {from Jo-Anns} to make my own.

These 2"x2" squares served as a backing for when I threaded the bendy wire through the button and could secure the button to the fabric and foam batting.

Here's how the button looked being ready to be thread through the fabric and then I could separate the two wires to secure it tightly!

Like I said, I still have to add some trim to hide the staples, but it's pretty much done! As soon as I get that corner of the room finished, I'll share more pics of the bigger space! : )

Antique Shop Finds

Today David and I went to an Antique Mall in Fairview Heights. I used to hate going to these types of places, but I've changed my ways! : )

Most of the store overwhelmed me with all of the random stuff, but my eyes were on the look out for fun furniture finds and I was lucky enough to find some.

We got there at 10 minutes til 6 and the store closed at 6--so needless to say, this was a super quick trip. Don't worry though...I still had time to take a few pics of my favorites that I spotted in 10 minutes time.

All of the following chairs cost less than $50 each! I really like them all and am trying to resist the urge to return to buy one of them!

Also, this secretary had a red 'sold' sticker on it, but it reminded me so much of the Eddie Ross {from Bravo's Top Design} secretary he re-did! I probably wouldn't have given it a second glance unless I had seen the beautiful end result Eddie produced!

We plan on going "antiquing" more---David actually likes this type of shopping because he's obsessed with books and loves to look through old ones. Score one for me : ) !
