DIY: Leather Baby Moccs

I think it's absolutely no secret to those of you who follow me on Instagram that I love dressing my little guy.  I get a kick out of scoring great deals and fashionable little pieces for my dude.  When I found out I was pregnant with a boy I kind of panicked.  Being an only child, and obviously being a girl, I felt I knew less than nothing about raising/caring for/dressing a boy!

Well, I can tell you, I am learning as I go and the dressing part could not be any more fun.

If you have ever shopped for kids you are well aware that the boys section is seriously neglected in relation to the girls section.  And that bummed me out at first.

But now, I don't even care...because finding great deals and one-of-a-kind outfits is part of the thrill--the hunt.  I love perusing my favorite Instagram kid shops and every thrift shop I ever come across. Plus, I scour Etsy and the internet like it's my job.  Heck, it kind of is my job now that summer's here. Score.  Sorry to be *that person* who rubs it in.

But I digress. Geez, I do that a lot.  If you're a momma, momma-to-be, or shopping for a momma, you've probably heard of Freshly Picked Moccasins.  The entrepreneur behind the name gained instant fame when Kourtney Kardashian started outfitting her son, and now her daughter as well, in FP moccasins.

The mocks are quite pricey and some may roll their eyes at spending upwards of $60+ on kid shoes.

I did.  But that didn't stop me from buying Theo some FP moccs. He's been walking since he was 11 months old and has had his moccs since then.

He wears them most days and can't kick or pull them off yet.  They are great for him, and for us.

But I wasn't satisfied with one pair. [Typical] I wanted more colors but I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for them.

So I did what any sane person would do. I hunted down a mocc pattern, bought some Italian leather off of Etsy, and sewed my own.

Totally normal, right?

Haha.

I know, I know.  I pretend I know how to sew.

For my very first go-round, it wasn't that bad.  I broke a needle, had a heck of a time threading the elastic [we're talking hours], and couldn't sew a straight line to save my life.  BUT, I did it. I once again shocked the crap out of myself by doing something I never thought I'd ever do.

But here's the kicker.  The shoes I worked so hard on are almost too little for Therbear.

I'm thinking about listing them on IG for suuuper cheap so someone else's little one can benefit from them.  Who knows if anyone will even be interested in my trial moccs.

I'll let you know.

Now, I wonder what I can sew next.  As I type this I have an internet tab pulled up with more leather to buy.  It's so tempting!

xoxo

Theron's style always impresses me. He has good taste. I'll hire you to be my personal shopper if I ever have a boy. ;)

I'm interested in your trial mocks! I have been wanting a pair for my son, but they are so expensive. Maybe you should do a giveaway on your blog!

These turned out SO good. I am amazed by your go-get-em attitude with sewing. These would be an amazing baby gift. Could you hang onto them for a friend?

That kid is the best dressed little havoc wreaker there is!! ;) I'm so impressed by your sewing skills, chica. And if Quinn's feet aren't already the size of boats (I don't know where she gets it from), I'd totally call dibs on these mocs. Love them!

Super cute DIY mocs!!! I actually found some mocs today for my soon to arrive baby boy that look a lot like FP mocs but are 30. They are by Bobux and I found them at Whole Foods. They only come in a couple colors and don't look as sturdy as the FP ones but the price was so much better!

I'm tempted to try this DIY, but I just found these ones very similar to FP but for only $35. http://teepeetoes.bigcartel.com/

I have a question. I'm hoping it's not a stupid one... Are these non skid? Does it have to be a special kind of leather or other material to be non skid? Thanks for your help!
