You know, I hear that when new mothers are about to give birth they go into a nesting period full of cleaning, organizing, and making sure everything is just so-so. Well, I'm definitely not a new mother but I go through this same sort of thing every year and I like to call it the "Oh-crap-I'm going back to school and I need to feel productive in my last week of freedom-period." It's weird and David always laughs at my antics. Poor guy, I stay up at all hours finding things to do.
And I tell you, it happens every.single.year. I feel the need to purge, clean, and/or organize something. This week it has been the closets, specifically the entry way and bathroom ones.
Of course I didn't take "before" shots....why? I really don't know. Maybe it's because a. I'm too excited to get started or b. I was too embarrassed. Either way, they're not here.
But I do have "afters"! Here's our entryway closet all prettied up.
I got the fabric bins from Target and made the tags from random scrapbook paper and ribbon I had lying around the house. I made the labels by tracing a circle from a cup and then tracing a smaller square cup for the white label. The woven bin was from IKEA and it has the same label {even though you can't see it} that hold blankets. The last black bin is empty for now, thus the blank label. But I'm sure, sooner than later, I will find something to store in there! : )
I also switched out our mismatched hangers for wooden ones from Target and they instantly bring a look of cohesion to this little space.
Baskets and labels are my friends and they instantly make me feel better. Huge bags going to the Goodwill also make me feel better. And my new favorite site I've been stalking? Yup you guessed it, the Container Store. Wow, I wish someone would send me on a shopping spree there. Oh the damage I could do.
The bathroom closet used to have basic wooden shelving like the hallway closet but David and I recently painted the shelves white. I'm thinking about doing this to all of the closet shelving in our home. It instantly made it look well planned and clean. Love it!
And last but not least, our vanity got a storage makeover with some random baskets I wasn't using. I had just enough of these suckers and they fit perfectly. They might get labels later, I haven't really given it much thought.
So tell me teachers {or anyone for that matter}, do any of you guys have this same sort of pre-back to school/work ritual? Or am I the odd woman out?
Oh, and I also had plans to have a little fun this week {besides organizing like a crazy woman}to head down to my classroom and lunch with friends but then I got sick. Who gets sick in the summer? Doc says I have tonsillitis {and it hurts like you wouldn't believe to swallow!} and wouldn't you know that it's contagious--of course it is. My last week of freedom and I'm stuck at home. Boo...I feel like a hermit crab. I finally get to go out Friday if my temperature is gone. My body and I will fight if that temp and sore throat aren't long gone. They are no longer welcome here.
Let's see if they listen. : )

I hope you feel better and get out soon. I'm sorry we missed you at lunch the other day :( We'll do it again soon. Melissa
They both looks great! Don't you feel loads better now? I currently have quilts falling on my head when I open the bathroom closet...
I can't believe you have a pink vacuum. :( Makes me wish I hadn't just gotten a new one! lol
Where is the wire basket in the bathroom closet from?
You have given me the kick I need.I am revampin closets today.
Yup, same here! I have been going through the "oh, crap, I only have two weeks left to finish all this little stuff I wanted to do in June" issue. It's slowly getting there.
I do the same thing!
So sorry you have tonsilitus! I get it 3-4 times a year...I know its no fun! Feel better!
Looks great! I can totally relate to this feeling! I have another 3 weeks after this one so I'm trying not to think about it yet!
Joi, Joi, hope you feel better.
Girl, you have so much energy! I remember never having any energy right before school started because I had to save all of that up for decorating and reorganizing my classroom. You go, girl. :)
I hope you feel better soon! :)
And please come to my house and help me get organized?
I'm not pregnant or a teacher, but I definitely go through this as well (both with purging and organizing). All a sudden, I just feel like I have too much stuff and I can't find anything – and I can't focus until I address it.
Oh, Joi, you are NOT alone! I am doing the same thing over here, and my teacher friends are doing the same! I am probably going to steal your idea for baskets in my hall closet!
Feel better soon!

Bummer about tonsillitis! Timing is terrible.
But, all your organization looks awesome. I love all your baskets, esp. the last ones.
I,too,am a teacher. I have the exact same problem! Don't worry...you are not alone.
Cute vacuum. :) Love the labels too.
There's nothing like an organized closet! So satisfying. :)
Hope you're feeling better!
"Baskets and labels are my friends and they instantly make me feel better." LOVE it! Whenever I’m stressed I organize something and I always always start with baskets and my labeler. There is something very therapeutic about organizing...
Get well soon!
I feel like I had all these grand plans for the summer and now I'm in oh crap what did I do with all my time mode.
Hope you are feeling better! Cleaning out closets and things just make me feel good! =) Yours look great! Love the tags.
great post! I love the way you've done everything :) looks great!
Hi there! I just found you and this made me laugh because the school year for me is like the start of a new year. I start cleaning, organizing and purging. I can't say they even remotely look like yours, but the principle is there. I love all your baskets and yes only wooden hangers!
