I stumbled across this little tutorial awhile ago and used my Spring Break time to make 2 lovely little paper carnation flower arrangements. I love them, even if they took almost 5 hours to make! The first one was smaller you can see right here and the second one is a lighter shade of pink.
The old Joi would have turned up her nose at carnations, but bunched together they look quite lovely. I have plans for their new home, but that info will have to wait for now. ; )
I'm not the best at giving step by step blog instructions {even though I am a teacher-imagine that!}, but we'll see how it goes.
If you decide to undertake this fun DIY projects you will need the following:
1. Some sort of glass with a diameter you like
2. Floral ball {ours was purchased at Walmart}
3. Container {ours was a milk glass flower pot I already had}
4. Tissue Paper {4 whole sheets folded once}
5. Floral Wire
6. Push Pin
7. Scissors
Trace the diameter of the glass as many times that will fit on the tissue paper. {I used the sheets you see here and about 1/2 of another set}
Cut the circles out and push the pin through the circles {all 8 layers of them} twice.
Thread the floral wire through the holes and twist underneath like you're making a stem.
Push up the tissue paper one sheet at a time in the shape of petals...the more random, the better.
At the end, your flower should look pretty similar to this. At this time I cut the floral wire to about 3 inches on the end.
Push the wire into the foam and arrange the bottom layer first. Then fill in the rest, row by row.
Last step: Enjoy and admire your finished product. I just love it! : )
If anything was unclear, post your questions in the comments and I will make sure to answer them.

At first glance, I thought those were real! Very cute!
I also thought they were real! :) looks lovely! :)
those are so fun! thanks for the tutorial~
They are so cute - what a great little DIY project! :) Love them!
Cute! looks like a fun project to share with my girls. Thanks!! Enjoy this lovely day!
So cute, and you don't have to worry about changing the water or cutting the stems to lengthen the life of the flowers. It's perfect!
It would look fabulous to do a dozen of these down the center of a dining room table for a dinner party. Martha Stewart did a pink and white arrangement in small staggered square vessels that looked great. This would be a much more affordable alternative. However, I like real carnations too because they last up to two weeks. I buy myself a couple bunches every other week when I grocery shop.
Joi! I love carnations and I love this diy project! So cute!
I totally thought the wine glass was going to be for wine -- that could be an essential step for some of us! HA!
Love the look, thanks for the step by step too!
Love the color and I agree that I thought that they were real the first time I saw them. This would be perfect for some centerpieces and I am going to have to give it a whirl! And also your tutorial is great!
great project! love it. perfect for my daughter's room... i can never put real flowers in her room because i never remember to add water!
very cute! I'm gonna have to try to make mine look just as good as yours
You've got me convinced! Love the carnations. When you first showed us your office photos, I was convinced they were real!
These are really cute. I'm going to have to make some for my niece's wedding in June. Can't wait to see what you do with the Amy Butler fabric. I just did a project with some and have another one in the works.
Divine!! And they'll never wilt. Dayum! You're giving those Martha S. tissue pom-poms a run for their money seriously.
Send a little of your patience over here please, I could use some......
When i first took a quick look i thought that they were real, good job!!!
My mom does wedding flowers out of her home and a lot of brides turn their noses up at carnations and would rather go with roses, they have no clue how beautiful carnations grouped in a single color can look and for a fraction of the price and WAAAAYYYY longer lasting than roses. Especially in the heat of summer.
Cant wait to try this for myself, even though I can get fresh ones almost anytime, I'm too lazy to change the water after awhile and you know the stink factor of dirty flower water!!!
Ha! SOOOO cool!
I just came across your blog and I love your ideas. I'm totally going to use this one!
