Living Room Updates

I wonder how many blog posts have been titled 'Living Room Updates'?  I'm too embarrassed to look back. Haha.  In the 7 years that we've lived here our home has undergone numerous transformations.  Once I found out how much I loved decorating it became a hobby for me.  Our home is a revolving door of sorts.  Some people spend their money on clothes or their hair/nail/massages but I tend to spend it on our home.  I like to think I do it frugally most of the time.  Most being the key word.

Since we had our little guy, things had to change in the living room.  The brass and glass coffee table needed to be replaced [we will be listing it on St. Louis craigslist asap] for obvious reasons and we needed a more comfortable sofa.  We ultimately decided on the West Elm Henry sectional and bought it sight unseen.  Brave move.  So far we love it but it is awfully staticky.  I hate getting shocked so much.  Oh well.  It is leaps & bounds more comfortable and practical for our new lifestyle with an almost
toddler teetering around.

I also decided that the new furniture would best fit the room in a new arrangement.  In addition to the sectional, over the course of 10 months we bought a new rug from Rugs USA [during a 60% off sale], a new coffee table from Serena and Lily [which I scored on a super-sale and I think is no longer available], and new "art" in the form of framed Instagram poster pics from Prinstagram and a mural from Urban Outfitters [which I also scored on a super-sale but it seems like it is priced higher again].

Something still is not right with the room and I think I know what it is.  I definitely want a new round coffee table [almost bought an awesome vintage one off of craigslist] and while I adore the Instagram prints, I often question myself if they're too busy and boxy.  The styling of the room is almost non-existent and I need to work on that.  Someday I'll get around to that.

Since it's my hobby, things are bound to change.  [Love you, Dave!] My husband sure is a peach to put up with me.

Oh, and I don't think I ever mentioned that we painted the living room a shade of white by Benjamin Moore.  I think it was called "Smoke."  I needed some calm in my life this summer and white seemed to bring that--or so I hoped! I really do love it.

So that's where we're at right now. Like I said, come back next week and things could be different.

It may be a sickness....haha.

xoxo

It looks so different but I love it! I have to agree about the IG pics though, much too busy. Plus people will have to lean over the couch to look at them.

I personally like the IG prints because when else in life will it be fun? We are young and you'll change it up in a year so enjoy the sweet photos of T!

You could always move them to the playroom too! I may steal this idea once Tate is here for the playroom.

The changes look great - you have such a good eye for mixing eclectic pieces! I'm like you, I would much rather spend money on things for our living space over a new top to wear.

Love the updates! I feel like our spaces are in a constant state of change as well. This is especially true with a baby/toddler...pretty things are not always practical with them. And what fun is a prefectly finished room?

Wow, another fun room. You are so practical and wise with your purchases that you can keep doing this over and over and still not spend what some people spend one time. I like the IG photos, but I like lots of pattern. Doing what suits you will be best and of course you can't help but to be chic. So where did those chairs go and the sofa? I might have buyers!

I love this update so much. I've been waiting (im)patiently for it. I really love the framed Insta-art, but I have the same reservation about the instagram pictures I have on our mantel. It seems a little busy for my taste, but I'm living with it for now. I like yours with more white space and the gold frame. Giving me some ideas.

Also happy to hear your review on the sectional. A sectional purchase is on the horizon for us if I can save my pennies and sell things that are in my house. ;) Anyhoo, I love the look of the Henry (and the name), but I haven't seen it either. Is the color you chose a custom fabric? Just curious.

LOL, great minds DO think alike. Further proof we were separated at birth or something! Though you're WAY further along w/ your living room than we are & it's been 2 yrs since we plunked down our furniture, wth?!

All this to say I LOVE the updates. You truly made it so chic yet child friendly. No small feat as I'm discovering! I feel people think sectional is a dirty word but you proved that wrong. Looove it, the new art, & that chrome arc lamp so much. And I really heart the IG art, busyness & all.
