I've had such a tremendously productive and fun weekend! I've been on the go and doing a million different projects around the house and enjoying our record high warm temperatures.
Yesterday I went with mom, maw maw and paw paw shopping around Fairview. I picked up lots of cute stuff from Target {50% off Home Design Event items} and Pier 1.
Last night and most of today I spent reupholstering a chair I picked up from an antique mall a couple months ago. It is fabulous, but deserves its own {very long} post later on!
But I won't leave you hanging, I am going to share with you some updates we made to the dining room. Lately I've been feeling kinda like there was way too much brown in the room, I was unhappy with the light fixture, and was over the ceiling tile art. Pretty typical of my ever changing decor taste!
Everytime I get my hair cut in St. Louis, I stop by the huge Pier 1 there, and see these particular window coverings. They are loud but something about them have stayed on my mind. I have always hesitated buying them, but this weekend I bit the bullet.
I'm happy to report that I love the way they've transformed the space. They are very bright and have kind of a retro-modern vibe...a vibe I've been feeling a lot recently.
I also picked up the wicker-circle-thingies you see on the wall for $19 a piece! I love how they fill up the wall and bring texture into the room. Also, I found the adorable white ceramic bowl at Pier One and had to have it. It was love at first site ♥.
And last but not least, the pendant light is a newbie too! I have liked it for months after I found it on eBay. At $50, it was practically a steal. I wanted something fun and fresh, but regular white pendant lights weren't doing it for me anymore. I figure if I get sick of this fixture, it won't be too hard on our pocketbooks to change!
What are your thoughts? Hate it, love it? Let me know : )

I love the curtains, but I am not sold on the wall hangings yet...I think I really liked what you had up already but I get that they dont go with the curtains all the way...
I love that white bowl from Pier one! I might have to go see if I can get one for myself...
I really like the curtains, the bowl, and the light fixture. The wall art is not my style, but it fits in well with the rug and it all looks good together! Great job!
I like the curtains, and I liked your wall art that you had up but it does not go with the theme now, but the new wall art does go with your new theme, the light fixture is kinda different but not sure I like it and your bowl is pretty. I liked the old theme but you do need change after time it gets old.
I love it. It looks fresh and fun. Love the curtains, especially. I wouldn't have the guts to try it. I'm such a pansy.
I absolutely love the curtains! At first glance the before shot wasn't that bad, but what a difference the changes have made!!! If you don't reuse the old wall hangings, hit me up. If the dementions are right, I would be willing to buy them to go over our bedroom dresser (Brandon does not like my double mirror idea...who'd of thunk it).
PS- I will stop saying I am Emily's friend since you know who I am ; ) ~Debra
wonderful transformation!! I love the window treatments! Bold choice but LOVE them!! Great job! {as always!}
I'm afraid of patterns (unless it's damask) so thank goodness I have you to live vicariously thru! I think the drapes are perfectly retro and compliment that fun new light fixture. It's mid-century modern done right!!
Really love the white bowl (got one from P1 similar to it for our little white hutch). We are so on the same brain waves =)
I don't think you can go wrong w/ either of the wall pieces. The tiles bring in pops of white but the wicker circulars are more airy and abstract. I do think the new circulars are more dramatic and tie in better w/ the drapes.
Joi, everything looks awesome! I really love the wall basket things. Very cool!
I have to know though, did you end up buying your plaid shirt???
LOVE the light fixture and the bowl! They are perfect!
looks great Joi! I love the basket idea- there is a light fixture I'm buying that is a similar texture. I'll email you the link for your advice :) And thanks for the target tip- I scored a few goodies yesterday!
What a nice makeover. The added color really makes a huge difference.
I think I have the same table as you. Is that a pub table? And does it have leaves to extend it out and make it a square?
Anyway, the changes to the room look great!
Holy cow! I absolutely love everything and how you always work your magic!!! I adore the curtains and the baskets.
Wow, what a difference. I love the curtains, they really make a statement in the room.
Definitely love it. Great job!
Everything looks great! I think the wall art goes well with the retro-ish vibe! Well Done!! Oh-what kind of house plants do you have?? I love the one in the background!
Looks good Babe but will have to see the light in person. Love you Much Maw Maw
Thanks for the honest feedback everyone!
Debra--I may be selling and I'll keep you in mind : )
Dionne-Our table is counter height...a little smaller than pub I think! : )
Libbi-I tried on the plaid shirt but it didn't look right on me. I think it was made for my younger years--ha!
Very nice! It's amazing what a difference a few small changes make!
I think everything looks great! I really like the curtains. So fun.
I love those curtains. I have been eyeing them at Pier 1 for a while but I can't figure out any space in my house where they would work. I love the wall hanging as well. The light fixture is not my style but it works for the room. Great transformation I really like your style.
Oh WOW, you really know how to put a room together it looks fantastic. I just love those drapes.
I like the bright colors and the pretty dish on Table and the wall thingie's. Not sure about the light for me but its cute for you.
