Rally The Troops

Today was the much hyped and much promoted 'Welcome Back Rally' at my school. All the kids could talk about was this. Now, for those of you who do not know me personally, let me give you some background information. I am a high school teacher and this year I took a leap of faith and decided to leave the only school I had ever taught at to return home to my alma mater.

When I was a student in this same school, the rally started off as a modest assembly our Junior year. But, it has grown to larger than life proportions! The classes are all assigned colors: seniors are yellow, juniors are orange, sophomores are blue, freshmen are green, and the staff is red. I would like to estimate that a good 90% of the school {we have 2100 students total!} dressed in their colors and were chalked full of school spirit. During the assembly the kids were yelling, screaming, and having a fabulous time. The energy and life that they all had could've brought me to tears {happy ones} if I wasn't so embarrassed to cry in front of people. Many times throughout it, I got the chills.

In these pictures you can really only see the senior and junior classes, but the sophomores and freshmen are in the top bleachers just as dressed up!

One of the most important reasons I became a teacher was because of things like these. Today was a perfect example of letting people know that teenagers can and will like school if given a chance. They got excited, showed school pride, and shared in a sense of community that most schools boast, but few actually have.

Here's the ever-popular spirit cheer! I caught it at the end of the juniors' turn and then it was passed onto the seniors!

I am so honored to be back at my old high school and hope the rest of the year lives up to today.

Ashley-I'll have to find out when he has Spanish and check in on him!

Michael-I agree : ) It so doesn't feel like a job---only when I'm getting up at 5 a.m. does it feel like work!

Suzie-Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
