What's Good In Your Hood {Tulsa / Fayeteville}

Happy Monday, everybody! I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend and that those of you on the east coast braved Irene with no problems! The storm coverage had me tuned in all weekend. Dave and I had a low-key weekend; we puppy sat our nephew Isaac and didn't want to leave him alone for too long. He has a history of chewing on stuff and pawing on the door. He was our little buddy and Niko and Scout finally started liking him...a little. My time at home let me get a lot of cleaning done that I had been putting off for way too long.

Today our search takes us to Oklahoma for the good stuff. Let's see what she's got.

It's Friday!

Wahoo! It's the weekend....almost. I know I said I'd be better at blogging soon, but I promise it's coming. I'm finally feeling like I'm in a routine so more posts are in the line-up. I am really enjoying my classes this year, and so far, my students have been great kiddos. As many teachers know, this early stage is the "honeymoon phase" so things could always change. I'm staying positive though because I believe they'll continue to be great and impress me. : )

This Friday I'm leaving you guys with images that make my heart smile. I seriously have some of the best people in my life. One of my best friends, Cori, sent me this adorable card and sugar skull image for my birthday.

Photobucket

She saw it on my pinterest months ago and bought it for me. When I opened it I almost cried. What a thoughtful gift. Who doesn't love a surprise gift in the mail from a dear friend? Definitely one of the highlights of my week.

This past weekend my mom and I treated Maw Maw to her very first hour long massage and pedicure for her birthday. She absolutely loved it and that made me so happy. Maw Maw deserves the best and I'm glad she got to feel completely pampered.

While Maw Maw was getting the special treatment my mom and I took a trip to Target. I spotted these faux bois over-sized pillows and almost made a pair of them mine.

Photobucket

I was thinking I could use them on our new bed. Ultimately I left them there because they just weren't fluffy enough for me. Maybe they'd be better suited to a sofa set-up. I think they're a great accent choice!

And finally, I snapped this picture of Scoutie Bear waiting for her Daddy to get home. She sits on the couch the entire evening until he walks in the door. To say she is obsessed with David is an understatement.

I am so glad we rescued this sweet pup. We fall more and more in love with her everyday!

That's it for me. Have a fabulous little weekend, friends.

What's Good In Your Hood {Raleigh/Durham}

Happy Monday, everybody. By my almost complete neglect of the blog last week you can tell I'm pretty exhausted and wiped from the first week of school. I didn't plan on taking a mini-break but it felt good. I hope it's not a sign of things to come because I really do love blogging and all of my internet buddies.

Getting back into the swing of things....let's see what Raleigh-Durham has to offer. It's been too long, craigslist! ; )

I'm Slacking

Hey guys! I hope you haven't abandoned me. I have put off blogging for a couple days and it felt good and bad. I loved coming home from school, relaxing with my sweet husband, and catching up on my TV shows BUT I also missed reading and commenting on my favorite blogs and writing my own.

Things have slowed down around here in regards to decorating and school starting but I'm hoping to become inspired soon. Ever get in that funk? Hopefully when our bed arrives I will become rejuvenated.

A couple of fun things that I did the past couple of days...

1) I went to the Taylor Swift concert with my mom! We had great, wonderful, awesome seats and Taylor was so entertaining. She appears so humble and grateful and I think that is so endearing about her. She's right there up near Britney status for me! I never thought another lady would take that spot but Tay Tay is getting close.

I snapped a pretty crappy cell phone pic and it looks pretty bad but at least you can see we were there! Has anyone else got to see her "Speak Now" tour? If you can, I totally recommend it!

2) I started my 8th year of teaching. Say wha???? I can't believe it either; I'm considered a veteran teacher. Weird. I'm as ready as I'll ever be for this school year and I have a feeling it is going to be an exciting one! : ) I get to see those bright eyed kiddos on Thursday and I'm hoping for a great class roster.

3) It may not be a big deal to anyone but I made biscuits and gravy last night for maybe the second time in my life. It's one of my favorite foods and my maw maw is the master biscuits and gravy maker. She taught me well, but I've got a looooong way to go. It did take me two attempts to get it right last night...that gravy is so tricky!

Photobucket

Let me just apologize for the camera phone quality. David dropped my phone in the sink last night and we thought it bit the dust, but magically and thankfully, it's working in its own special way--haha.

So that's it for me. How are you?

When I get a chance I'll crank out some craigslist posts. Promise.

I'm Ready For Our New Bed

Pretty direct and to the point blog title, huh? I think I told you guys a couple of weeks ago that we ordered a new custom upholstered bed.

It is very similar to the ever-so-popular Crate and Barrel Colette bed and I can't wait til our version arrives in 5 or so weeks!

Our bedroom is undergoing a slow metamorphosis, which is unlike me, since I like getting stuff done pretty fast. I appreciate anyone that has the patience and foresight to take their time designing rooms. I am starting to learn that skill, I think!

Once the bed gets here I am going to change our bedding. I have never been afraid of styling pillows but lately I have been stuck. I don't know what new bedding I want and I couldn't think of a pillow set-up that I was in love with.

Well, enter this recent edition of House Beautiful:

As I was perusing this little favorite of mine an advertisement for Oly jumped out at me.

The bed above has exactly the feel I want for our new bed. The pillow set-up is perfection to me. I am now currently on the hunt for fabrics/or bedding that I love to make/have the euro shams and standard shams.

I already have a bolster pillow waiting to have its cover sewn from this unexpected fabric find from an Old Navy sarong.

So those are the most recent decor thoughts in my mind. Things have slowed down just a little on our homefront, but just as soon as I think that, something gets me inspired again!

Have a happy weekend, friends! I cannot believe it's the final weekend of summer. Thankfully it's going out with a bang on Sunday because me and my mom are going to see Taylor Swift in concert! Woohoo--I'm very excited!

What's Good In Your Hood {Toronto}

Hey friends. I'm so sorry this post is coming at you a day late. I have been exhausted the last couple of days. I need to kick this crazy tired spell before school starts or else I am going to be in for a rude awakening.

Anyhoo, thanks SO much for all of your sweet anniversary wishes and comments. You guys are the best! We took it pretty easy on our anniversary day and went to my Great Day St. Louis appearance, then went to get my headshot taken for my Stl AT HOME blog, and rounded out the afternoon with a little shopping & lunch. By the time we got home, you guessed it...I was exhausted!

The Great Day segment was yet another chance for me to share my love for decorating and Virginia was as sweet as ever.

The whole Great Day crew is made up of the nicest and most welcoming people you'd ever meet! What a great group! I love, love, love getting to appear on their show.

Today we make up for yesterday and scour the deals on Toronto's craigslist!
