If I'm being honest here, and I always try to be, I wasn't always a fan of this little ol' tree-slash-plant.
I had seen him here and there in design magazines and via blogs and never felt too much of anything toward him. In fact, I thought he was kind of odd. Oops.
Let's fast forward, shall we? The other night I find myself enthralled in Secrets From A Stylist and notice yet another one of "those" plants in the background.
The shows goes off and I go on my merry way.
But, sooner rather than later, I find myself thinking about said tree-slash-plant and twittering and googling its name. No luck. How could google fail me? I guess "house plant with big leaves" might not have been the most specific search ever.
So I take myself on over to pinterest and type in "large house plant" and voila! I'm hit with beautiful images of my new found love and finally discover its name: fiddle leaf fig! I dig it.
I'm now 100% smitten with this plant and have been reading in the blogosphere that IKEA usually sells them. How 'bout that? Good 'ol IKEA that's nowhere near the STL. Insert sad face here.
Hmmm....looks like I will be calling around the greater St. Louis metropolitan area to find me one of "those" fiddle leaf figs stat. I'm fully prepared to pay and arm and a leg. Or so I think.

i've been looking for one of those around stl the last few weeks and am not having much luck... let me know if you find one!
I've seen these to and I love them! I have NO green thumb so I don't know if this would work for me but I can't wait to see it in your home!
I think it will be a perfect addition to your living room. Try Summerwinds Nursery on Clarkson Rd (near Manchester intersection) They have an awesome greenhouse and Diane will be sure to help and possibly order one if they do not currently have one. I'm also bummed that no IKEA is here in the Lou. N Rack is here maybe I is soon to follow!!?? wishing!! Just got STL Home in the mail. Awesome cover!!congrats!
i love fiddle leaf figs! i actually just got one for my living room and it is perfect for the space. adds enough greenery and "life" but fits with my sleek, laid-back decor.
tip: you can find them at home depot or other home improvement store's nurseries. but they're often marked with a generic "exotic plant" name, not the proper name. i went to 4 nurseries and 2 home depots and found fiddle leaf figs at all, in the range of $18 to $45 for ones about 4.5 - 7 feet tall. not bad!
I think I've got the fiddle leaf fig fever too! Sadly, I don't have a green thumb BUT I think it'll look great in your living room! Good luck on your search :)
oh it is meant to be, i know it. that really is a beautiful tree-slash-plant and now you make me want to get one! In fact I could copy pretty much all your ideas and I would love my house for it!
Love these trees! My mom has one and says they are so easy to take care of.
You wouldn't happen to have any invites to pinterest would ya? A girl can hope :)
That tree will look great in your room. Happy searching! and good luck.
Erica, if Joi doesn't have any Pinterest invites, I do! I'll just need your email address which I promise not to share with anyone :)
Here is another post about them! Looks like they are often labeled incorrectly, but can be found at Lowe's and Home Depot! Good luck with the search! I love them too. :)

I have two of them in my home. They make me happy every time I look at them.
You can see one of the little guys here: http://1551transformed.blogspot.com/2011/04/more-brass-bamboo.html
Hmmm that is a sort of weird looking tree. I believe there is an ikea in Chicago....guess we'll have to go there.
I've always loved these. We bought one for our living room like 5 years ago, but we bought the wrong pot. It was like a light weight pot and it couldn't handle to plant. Total disaster. I ended it up throwing it out. Oh, yea, I don't have a green thumb.
Thanks for the help, everyone! I hope to find one in the StL region but have had no luck thus far! Someday soon! : )

I just got one at an estate sale and I randomly see them on craigslist. People usually list them as a fig tree.
Here's mine:

Oh I love it, and think it will look so fab in you house! Hope youbfind one asap:)
I bought one a few years back and had to move it outside because I couldn't keep more then 2 leaves alive on it. It is finally happy again and sprouting more leaves. I don't have the best green thumb so don't be discouraged. They are beautiful!
So pretty! I've thought about getting a couple for our house. I'm going to take a closer look at our Ikea next time I'm there.
im looking for it too girl. we killed the banana plant. going to ikea sat.
Oh, Ive been looking around Columbus for two years - even at nurseries - and no luck. I check every home improvement store too. Maybe it's a regional thing? We do have IKEA around so I'll check there. Thanks!!
I already had my comment in mind, which went something like, "Well this is hilarious, because this week's mission was to find a fiddle leaf fig!" and then I read all of the similar comments. Fiddle leaf figs are HOT!
Love this plant.
I was doing a search on Fiddle Leaf Fig (I recently purchased one) to just get an idea of how I should decorate around it. I found mine at a local nursery. I haven't seen them at my local Lowe's or Home Depot unless they're the first plants/trees to go as soon as they hit the sales floor. Good luck. You'll love yours! Glad I found your blog too.
