Another Coat Of Paint?

So, those of you that know me or have been reading my blog know that I love to paint....or, so it seems. Since we've lived here I've painted the bathroom 5 times. I know, you don't have to tell me, that's a lot of paint!

My family jokes that the walls are going to start cracking and that we are losing square footage. It may be true, but up until this last time, the color just never felt right. You know what I'm talking about, right? I never got that feeling where I walked in and said, "Yup, this makes me 100% happy!"

While I paint a lot, I also go through lots of shower curtains. Whoops! I know I shouldn't indulge myself but I feel like shower curtains are a fun accessory and from time to time need to be changed. Most recently I picked up a great *and* inexpensive little ditty from Home Goods. It's black and geometric and had the same sort of vibe of that fabulous little Tory Burch logo.

For $15 bucks I had to have it and once I put it up in the bathroom that taupe wall color just was not doing it for me. That same night I was catching up on Sara's blog and came across this photo of her entryway:

Stunning, right? I agree that it's gorgeous and that peacock blue shade had me at hello. A light bulb went off and I was instantly sold! I played with some similar Sherwin Colors in their Color Visualizer with our bathroom pictures and ultimately decided on Peacock Blue.

We went to the store that night, picked up some paint and came back home to start the first coat. I was scared at first because the coat was so thin, and then after the second coat I was just as scared. So on Sunday we went to Home Depot and I had the paint color matched to Behr's primer and paint in one and the third coat made everything pull together. I know a lot of people poo-poo Behr but I've used this paint twice now {in the kitchen, too} with dark colors and it has worked like a charm.

And here's a little sidenote, I can't take a decent picture of this room for the life of me! I try and try but it's just so long and narrow that I can't capture its true sense.

And now, after seeing these pictures, I'm really feeling a new darker wood vanity with a gorgeous counter top. Oh brother....

I'm sure you all have bets on how long this color will last...haha! Who's to say?

Oh my word Joi! This is THE bathroom post I have been waiting for. We're currently remodeling our main bath. We converted a tub to a shower/tub and installed white subway tiles. That's done. I chose the paint while standing in HD. Not bringing the paint chip home and hanging it on the wall for a few days. Well it's dark. It's called Juniper...not quite a peacock but it does kind of read that way. The vanity will be painted something by Martha called Seal and the countertops are a grayish brown (they were special ordered). So i'm starting to have an ulcer over the fact that my bathroom will be too dark (and this is before I go through the work of painting everything). But you've affirmed my choices! Especially when you said the part about the dark wood vanity. Oh my, you've made my day. We'll see how it looks when i'm finished but I hope i'll be as pleased as you are!! Smooches!

Ohhh I LOVE that shower curtain and it really stands out against the gorgeous peacock blue. I can't believe you've painted this room 6 TIMES! I think it's brilliant and ya know, it's every woman's right to change her mind!

Paint is such a quick and easy fix - I painted my bedroom a pale grey when we first moved in and I'm starting to think I want to go much darker. Funny that I should feel any guilt about repainting (and I do!) because it's just paint right? Well done you for showing me the way! hahaha I shall feel guilt no more!

Love it! What a great, rich color. And now I want to go look at shower curtains at Home Goods.

Also - my husband insisted we buy Behr paint because it is a good price and rated well on Consumer Reports, and we were happy with it for light and dark colors!

great shower curtain and a wonderful color choice. keep it for at least six months. i wonder what the wood thingies on the wall would look if they were...wait for it...white!

I absolutely LOVE this color. So dramatic! It looks gorgeous!

I agree darker wood would compliment the color much better but it still looks great. Aside...are your counters silestone or something similar? How do you like them?

I've been seeing this peacock blue around and I love it but couldn't decide where to use it. I am in a rental but can paint, my son wasn't keen on me using it in his room so maybe his bath (guest bath) will get this treatment. Love, love, love it!

I'm right there with you with re-painting rooms! I've re-painted our kitchen 4 times now and the color STILL isn't right haha

LOVE that shower curtain by the way! I think this post is the inspiration I needed to kick my butt in gear to paint my bathroom :)

I was really considering this color for our bathroom after seeing it at Sara's. I thought it would really pop with the white subway and black and white hex tiles.

But, I chickened out and went grey. I have like 3-4 shower curtains at this point anyhow, so I probably shouldn't chooes a color that doesn't fit with any of them.

So I'll live vicariously through you. It's gorgeous.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who changes her mind a lot, too. My fiance just doesn't understand. :)

Glad you have a hubby who "gets it."

I swear....I am sooo drawn to these blues...so rich and vibrant. I think you have created another masterpiece. How can you ever do something wrong? I LOVE it....as for the cabinets...hmmm..I think you should try that new product..the one all the blogs have been chatting about. My friend is going to use it on her kitchen cabs. I have been playing with the idea of using it on my master....thinking expresso...which I think you should think about too. :)

Cheers~

It looks great, Joi!

I know what you mean about one thing leading to another... we're sprucing up the bathroom as well (and just dealt with some "interesting" shower curtain issues). :)

Hi Joi! Your bathroom is beautiful! When you mentioned the wood vanity, our current bathroom remodel popped into my head... Have you considered leaving the vanity white and replacing the countertop with dark stained and sealed butcher block? You can see ours in the works here (http://welcometoheardmont.com/2011/03/master-bath-phase-4-updating-the-vanity/). I'm loving it so far!

Anyway, your home has been a constant source of inspiration for me and I love the bold hue you chose this time! Have a great weekend. :)

Could you possibly let me know where you got the very cool wooden floor mat in front of the tub? I've been looking for something natural to go with our newly remodeled bathroom. Thanks so much!

Wood floor is the answer not dark cupboards. I love dark wall colours and I love the reaction from others when they see them.

The paint looks beyond AMAZING with that shower curtain! Too fun!

I *may* have to swipe this color for our basement. I've been looking for the perfect deep teal, but everything looks too "hunter green" when I see it IRL.

I have been drooling over that color in Sara's entry and peacock blue in general for awhile. And this fab bathroom totally seals the deal. Love it! I think I am going to have to go for it in the guest bedroom!
