I've Said It Before

And I'll say it again, I really want our next project to be tiling our kitchen backsplash.

This pic isn't the most current, but you can at least see the space a little bit. : )

I don't anticipate it being a difficult project, so I really don't know why we haven't bit the bullet and done it! All we want is a simple subway tile pattern that should be pretty easy and inexpensive as well. A-men!

I've saved a couple photos in my inspiration folder that make me giddy when I see them.

And, aren't the floors in this last photo yummy? They are my inspiration for our next BIG project that we won't tackle ourselves. I absolutley cannot wait for that transformation. Mmm, hmmm! I'm ready to say goodbye to our 1960s orange hardwoods!

The tiling though---I think that may be a project Dave and I could actually tackle on our own! We'll shall see. Wish us luck.

As I saw your first picture I thought to myself white subway tiles would be perfect in there. Good choice. Great minds think alike.

You can definitely do it your self :) We put white subway tiles in our last kitchen for under $100 and it was pretty easy. Can't wait to see it finished...I think it will look great!

I'm a sucker for white subway tiles as well. They would look perfect in your already beautiful kitchen! I too contemplated DIY-ing our subway tile (in the kitchen) but the thought of using a saw tile cutter scared me. I can't wait to see how it looks!! Thanks for keeping us updated.

Hi Joi, great meeting you today too! We had so much fun and you inspired us with your home and enthusiasm for style. You taught us a few things too. I love your blog and especially 'what's new in the hood" makes me think I am missing a few things in my hood. Let me know when you do St. Louis, or if you ever see something really cool, seriously let me know. I am doing my bedroom and living room and need a few vintage/fun pieces to mix in with the new. Stay in touch. dana@danasdesignstudio.com

I would love subway tiles for our backsplash. In fact, I would love that entire second kitchen. I've been asking my husband if we can paint our cabinets white and switch out our backsplash for subway tiles. So far - no go. :(
So excited to see how yours turns out!

I love white subway tiles - clean and classic for a kitchen. That's the plan for our backsplash. But, I'm debating between white and grey grout. What will you go with?

The last picture reminds me of this amazing 'wood tile' that a friend of mine used....it is amazing!

Know what? We had 1960s orange hardwoods, but when we stripped them down and refinished (clear; they're oak, and presumably red, but we're not sure), they turned out beautifully. I might've gone with a darker stain but hubby insisted that we allow the grain to show through. (Next house, dark floors!)

It's not an easy project but going the DIY will save you a lot of money if you have the time to tackle it yourselves!
