For what seems like ever I was obsessed with
this image.
I could not get this out of my head. I went to
the site the article suggested to get the medallions and just couldn't bring myself to bite the bullet and order them. The total price wasn't outlandish, but it wasn't a bargain either.
Well, summer strolled on and like I said, that image just kept haunting me. I finally gave in since the rest of the living room was shaping up quite nicely and I am happy as a clam that I did.
Using the inspiration image as a guide, I found some medallions at differing diameters and designs that suited me. I took note of the sizes and traced them out on wrapping paper and positioned them on the wall with painters tape before I committed to clicking the "purchase" button.
I highly recommend this step because you can get a feel for how they will look in your space and if the sizes you thought you needed were either too big or too small.
Once they arrived at home I had to figure out how to hang them. I contemplated drilling a hole
into the backs but I was afraid of cracking them. They're not ceramic, nor plastic, but more like a resin material.
Then my father-in-law suggested using gorilla glue {or any type of heavy duty adhesive} and d-rings and it was the perfect solution! I put two on each medallion and they are hanging just fine in our living room. I know they look kind of piddly but one d-ring can hold up to 30 pounds so we should be good to go. {
EDIT: We have since replaced the d rings with 3M velcro strips since one medallion fell off the wall--oops!}
Since I'm a fan of all things white, I kept them as they were when they arrived.
Of course you could always spray paint them virtually any color of your heart's desire! Since we had the templates up it was a cinch hanging them right on top. The only one I want to move is the one on the far right that I think could stand to come down a couple of inches.
I am very pleased with them and encourage anyone who wants a big statement art piece{s} to give this little project a try. You will love it!

We really do share similar taste. I have been loving this image too for a while. I was even thinking of using them in the nursery or maybe a little girls room. I do like them painted, but I also like the white on taupe contrast. Good work.
Take care,
Lisa

LOVE! Such a wonderful idea! Now I need to find me some!
love this! I've had that same inspiration picture printed out in a basket in my kitchen for over 8 months! I went to home depot and lowes months ago and never found any interesting medallions... mind sharing where you found yours? Thanks!!
I have been obsessing over this picture too for awhile now! I actually found your blog (which I love!) while searching for some more ceiling medallion wall art!
Do you have a rough total project cost estimate and some sizes on the ones that you used?
I keep looking at the sites, and it seems that the larger ones are 100+!
Thanks for being an inspiration!

I love this! I was (like some people above said) also Googling for ceiling medallion art and came across your blog! Thanks for telling how you hung them... I was curious about that!
Hi, I just came across your website and want to do something similar in our living room. Do you have the sizes and type of medallion you ordered for reference? I need a starting point :)
I've admired your medallions for a long while, but just stumbled on this post about them. I remember your inspiration pic from BHG a long time ago. I swear it's been several years since I first saw it and cut it out for my decorating binder, before the days of Pinterest!
I have a really blank wall opposite my bed. Right now there's just a dresser with TV on top, and a chair. The wall is a dark chocolate color. I was thinking of doing a gallery wall installation using various framed photos and art, to camouflage the TV, but I just got inspired to possibly do ceiling medallions instead. Hmmmm.
Do you mind sharing what sizes yours are? Just trying to get an idea of the ranges.
Love! It came out beautifully. I love your couch and coffee table too!
